Without further ado, let's get started on analysing Dimaria Yesta of the Spriggan 12.

Dimaria Yesta seems to be a relatively youthful member of the Spriggan 12, judging by her familiarity with Brandish (they're dating guys, come on.)

Her epithet is the "Valkyrie", for she is a woman who can stop battlefields from moving with her very presence and chooses precisely the lives of those she wishes to slay, befitting for the "chooser of the slain", the War Maiden Valkyrie.

Similar to her comrades Ajeel and God Serena, she is somewhat reckless and cheerful. Unlike them, however, she hides a far more vindictive and cruel persona.

Out of the Spriggan 12, Dimaria is probably the most dynamic and has a number of highlights. So what is her biggest problem besides screen-time? Well, a lack of backstory and motivation, really.

So let us address: What if Dimaria Yesta had a proper character arc?

Firstly, let us clarify something. Dimaria is a character who wields the powers of a God and is, therefore, exceedingly powerful to the point where (probably) only the top three Spriggan 12, Zeref, Acnologia and E.N.D can surpass her broken-ness.

She obtained this power from being a descendant of the Mildian people and obtaining the favor of the God of Time, Chronos. Who are the Mildians, you might ask? They are the same people who established a Magic Academy 400 years ago or so that Zeref was a part of, and almost killed off.

That being said, there are key questions that need to be addressed about Dimaria.

Firstly, why did she join Zeref? Though that's something that all the 12 besides Irene, August, Serena and Larcade need to answer, really.

Secondly, what's with the seemingly bipolar nature? On one end, Dimaria is cheerful but also kind of bored because her power is impossible to penetrate. The very next minute, the moment her power is broken through, she gets impossibly mad. But why? Well, personally, I think this has to do with her status as, let's say, a "maiden" hosting the power of Chronos. As a devout believer in Chronos, she probably believes that his power is the supreme power. And although she finds it somewhat boring that nobody is able to break through it, it is a source of pride. This source of pride, when broken, leaves her to become demonically angry. It is a brazen, sacrilegious act against her God that she cannot leave unpunished. If it was approached from that venue a little more clearly, the God dynamics in FT would be a bit more interesting.

Thirdly, her relationship with Brandish? Although it is clear they are very fraternal with one another, to the point where it is almost romantic in some case, there is no real explanation as to why this occurs. It's definitely an interesting touch but, why exactly is Dimaria so possessive over Brandish? What lead to this dynamic? Considering it played a considerable role in developing the more sadistic parts of her character, it also leads to another question.

Fourthly, what is the source of her sadism? Is it the pride that fuels her daily? Is it strictly possessiveness over Brandish? Or are there other aspects of her backstory that aren't being considered; for example, was she ostracized due to her devotion to Chronos?

By answering these sorts of questions in an arc that highlights Dimaria a little bit more, she could have been a stellar character among the Spriggan 12. Though that doesn't discount her as one of the better, objectively written, characters, she still isn't one of my favorites -- though she does have a lot of fans!

Since everyone seems to be extremely fond of Erza being helpless, and this was the only "badass" image of Ajeel on the Fairy Tail Wiki (I am not scavenging for images), here we go.

So today's feature of "What If?" is about our not-so-favorite Spriggan 12 member, Ajeel Ramal.

Off the bat, I'd like to tell you all something. There's not much you can do to improve Ajeel's character from a purely narrative standpoint. He is a walking cliche, and his role is designed to be the standoff-ish member of the villainous party who is strong but, in reality, not that strong compared to everyone else. He's a taste-tester but also, like, the guy that makes the protagonists feel validated after beating him somehow.

So while I can't really improve on Ajeel's role in the narrative because there would be no point, the real problem with Ajeel is that he's basically a walking anonymity, and this is the case with most of the Spriggan 12. There's no real background to them or lead-up to them which makes most of them fall very flat and feel like cliches. This is why characters like Irene, August, Brandish and Larcade feel a bit more alive and likable than the rest of the Spriggan 12.

Anyways, considering the very vague hints we have from canon, I have a single hypothesis about what Ajeel's background before the Spriggan 12 was. He appears to be royalty of some degree, or, at the very least, nobility within Alakitacia. He would have likely been part of a prominent warmongering nation that looted from others and prospered without care. He is ignorant of the consequences of war and ravishes solely in power and his own authority. But when he faces power that can force him to death, he will quiver.

Kinda cliche, sure. But Ajeel is a walking cliche. What matters in the case of cliches is presentation. If you can present a stereotype in a way that they are constructed as a genuine character with their own personality, then you've done a pretty good job. He might not become that much more likable, but at least he'll be tolerable, ya know.

That's all I really have for Ajeel, since, really, there's not much that you can do with him.

So, as you all should by now know, I made the Second Origin Activation spell on the wiki.

This was initially to explain some stuff happening in canon.

Along the line, it became a very common thing for people to add onto, well, every character.

I realized that it appeared as a power-up to many people and so changed its fundamentals so it wasn't viewed as something so cheap.

It never stopped. In fact, people sometimes continued to use my old description of the spell even though I changed it for that very purpose.

I'd like to point out the redundancy of Second Origin Activation today in this short thing. Do note, it's not even 7am and I've also been kept awake by the rain for like three hours.

The Second Origin Activation is, in itself, extremely redundant to possess on any character. It is a form of magic control in which, when you are at the bridge of being able to use your Second Origin, you can choose to seal it until the absolute necessary moment.

What happens? You get an amazing boost of power for a short while. After that? Your Second Origin is awake and it is part of your Magic Origin, so your overall Magic Power capacity has increased.

Then why is it that people have taken something that is simply a process of, let's say, being "recognized as a powerful Mage" and made it into something as cheap as a power-up that is stacked on virtually every character with a decent power level?

When did we, as a fanon, become so blind that we can't see the Second Origin Activation is little more than a circumstantial "power boost" that only leads to the permanent accessibility of your Second Origin's container?

I'm not going to ask you to remove Second Origin Activation from your characters. For some, it's simply to fill the article out and increase their byte count.

But I ask you, is increasing your byte count so necessary that you need to add something as redundant as Second Origin Activation?

If you can, through some miracle, justify why the Second Origin Activation spell is on your page, and it is something beyond what I have written for it, then I applaud you.

Otherwise it's just kind of sitting there, alone and useless.

Hey everyone! Today I'm going to start a series of threads that I believe are quite relevant to the progress of the Alvarez Arc in Fairy Tail currently.

As we all know, the Spriggan 12 were actually supposed to be just 5 or 6 antagonists, but were spread to 12 because the number had some significance to Hiro. What that exactly is, we don't know.

In any case, because of one of Hiro's choices and the subsequent rushing this arc had to take, a lot of potentially amazing characters within the Spriggan 12 had to have very rushed or no development/screentime at all in order to work in the confines of a weekly Shonen manga.

That being said, Hiro is a master at giving subtle hints. Or I'm a master of making information out of virtually nothing. So, I've decided to create a series of threads called the "What If?" Spriggan Edition. (Although there was no edition before this so the title retrospectively makes no sense.) I will discuss every member of the Spriggan 12 in detail, with the "What If?" referring to the following scenario: What if ___ of the Spriggan 12 was an antagonist that had a proper character arc to themselves?

These features will be done in chronological order to the Spriggan's "proper" appearance (as in, when they decided to pull out their stuff.) That being said, today's feature is of our favorite bikini-wearing "Country Demolisher", Brandish μ!

Brandish μ is a young member of the Spriggan 12, aged approximately 24 (according to canon statements, which put Brandish and Lucy at similar ages when they were still children. Counting the seven-year timeskip Lucy underwent while she was frozen in time, this is a rough estimate.)

Her epithet is the "Country Demolisher", for she wields Command T, a Magic that, in her hands, is able to adjust the mass and size of any object, animate or inanimate, that comes into her proximity, with the exception of those that possess greater power than her own.

She is a near-apathetic woman on the surface who cares very little for her subordinates nor for the affairs of others. She actively avoids unnecessary conflict and it is only her fealty to the Emperor that prompts her to move against Fiore in the first place.

Hidden under this veil of apathy is a woman driven by her love for her mother and the necessity for vengeance against those she was told were responsible. To this end, she is capable of manipulating any circumstance and will not fear to resort to underhanded methods to gain her vengeance.

But what happens when said vengeance is meaningless, and she no longer has a point in partaking in a meaningless slaughter?

It is precisely that last point that needs addressing. As we know, Brandish and Lucy entered the "Star Ocean" for a lack of better terms in order to observe the true circumstances behind Grammy (Brandish's mother)'s death. Brandish's entire life and motivation were a complete lie.

The incident should have scarred her, lead her to isolation, or just do something significant. However, in the time given in the narrative, she healed herself remarkably quickly. This makes the sudden transition to "ally" another product of the now-despised word (that hasn't been used in ages, mind you) "nakama" power of Fairy Tail.

So, that being addressed. What if Brandish μ was given a proper character arc?

Well, for one, the trauma from learning her entire life was a lie would leave her far more confused than the manga let on. Should she continue on the path of vengeance even though it's ultimately meaningless by twisting the blame back onto Layla and Lucy? Or should she ally herself with Lucy, who showed her the truth? But what about her loyalty to her Emperor and her Empire?

This struggle was briefly shown in the manga, but was overshadowed by a rapidly developing friendly relationship with Lucy and debt that was seemingly out of place for a situation like this. If anything, what needed to occur was some sort of conflict. The nature of Brandish's abilities makes her an excellent combatant to fight in a group. A hint towards her fighting style against Lucy was shown and the fight between Lucy and Brandish was one of the better fights in terms of pure choreography throughout the whole arc. Applying that to a larger scale would not only give a better sense of tension to the narrative, but flesh out Brandish's desperation even further.

What Brandish needed to make her character arc cement and make us appreciate the development she got as a "loyal citizen of Alvarez, but a woman who pays back her debts" was confusion about her where she belongs. Brandish hailed from Ishgar originally, but moved to Alvarez with her mother as a child. She is affiliated to her Empire, but possesses ties to Ishgar by ways of her debt to her.

"What should I do?" is the question that would run in her mind as she attempted to fight Fairy Tail. She would have fought with what appeared to be killing intent, but in reality was confusion. "Is there any point?" she would ask, as she continued to try, but subconsciously failed to crush those she was supposed to consider her enemy.

So that is what I believe would allow Brandish to become more fully fledged as an antagonist within this arc. A proper transition into the "neutral" flag that she now waves, as she prays that both her Emperor and Lucy get out of this meaningless massacre alive.

I know I promised these more often but...well, I grew tired of repeatedly trying to help people and then seeing the comments filled with irrelevant stuff about the direction of the series.

So, from the onset, I am telling you. If I hear a single complaint about how Hiro is taking Fairy Tail's direction, I will immediately remove it. I'm not censoring your opinion, but your opinion should be put in a more appropriate place, not on a thread or blog dedicated to trying to help this userbase out with its issues.

With that out of the way, let's get into the crux of today's little advice blog. Recently, I have been exposed to the idea of originality and creativity on the fanon, especially concerning the usage of Free Use abilities, such as Sword Pressure. This is boiled down to the copying of text from the Free Use article and not adding anything to said text that personalizes the ability/technique for the character it is being added to.

Before I begin saying what I want to say, I'd like to inform you this blog is by no means going to enforce a new rule onto you. I would simply like to add a fresh perspective into this little debate and perhaps influence your writing in a way that will make it more satisfying for yourself. Again, I am by no means trying to compel you to write in a way that would satisfy anything except the established rules. That is abuse of power.

What is originality?

According to the dictionary, it is the "quality of being novel or unusual."

In this day and age, however, does originality truly exist? Are we able to honestly say that any one of our ideas are not influenced by external media in the process of their creation? For the vast majority of us amateur writers out there, this is a no. All writers, amateur or professional, gain inspiration from somewhere. Whether it be personal experiences, other writers or anywhere else.

That being said, I personally believe that originality exists when you are capable of taking an existing source and use it in a way that is clearly defined by your intention. If you are able to take pre-existing source material and have it reflect your own intent and style, then you are original in my book.

That being said, this definition of originality is more in-line with the idea of creativity, that being the use of imagination to create something.

How does this apply to us?

This applies to us primarily in regards to Free Use articles. When an author puts up their article as Free Use, they are giving full permission to use the article in whichever way you, the borrower of the article's idea, desire.

However, should you simply use the article without any care for adding onto it and showing off your own creativity through it?

While I will not debate that question itself, I will give my opinion as someone who does give Free Use articles on this wiki, as to what I personally expect from users who borrow my content.

When I put up an article for Free Use, I do it expecting that those who borrow the contents of said article are using it in good faith. They are taking an idea I have created, and applying it to their character/concept while making it relevant. To this end, I expect a bit of flair from the borrowing author. If I end up reading the article that has borrowed my idea, I want to see the intention of the borrowing author shine through, and thus make this idea their own. I do not want to see my intention shining through another author's page.

The Point?

The point of this little thread is to give you an alternate perspective on how you can go about borrowing the content of other people, or even your own articles.

If you read your own article and can feel the intent of other authors shining through, is it truly your own article at that point? If you believe so, I will not stop you from continuing what you've been doing.

However, if you think that this blog has given you a change of heart, then do feel free to slowly but surely make the modifications to inspire further creativity and originality within your articles.

Remember, when you're taking concepts and using it on your article, those concepts should be extensions of your article, not disjointed attachments.

'Ello everyone. I should have probably posted more stuff here sooner, but I didn't. In any case, here's my first official post on this board.

You might be confused by the title. So let me break it down for you. To all those people who utilize the feats Irene employs with Enchantment casually on your characters? You should probably reevaluate your narrative decisions based on what I'm about to tell you. This actually goes for anyone using a Magic that is on a very powerful character (i.e Crash, Command T, Age Seal, etc) but their character might not meet the standard.

See, this problem boils down to how fanon as a whole works. Fanon wikis have been exemplified by creating some of the most over-the-top concepts from canon source material by extending on existing things. Is this necessarily bad? No. However, it isn't exactly good all of the time. After all, when a series (such as Fairy Tail) begins to spin on its own laws for continuing the narrative, this prompts fanon to be entranced by the possibility of new and exciting powers. And then? Everything becomes a contest.

The reason why I am using Irene's use of Enchantment here is because it's the easiest to explain, and there's two individuals who I can compare in canon: Irene Belserion and Wendy Marvell. Basically, this blog will highlight exactly what feats Irene is capable of performing with her Enchantment, the scale of those feats relative to any other character and how this applies to general fanon works and character feasibility.

But first let me explain the biggest issue when translating powers from anime/manga to a written medium: there's a difference in exposition. You see, the aim of a writer is to give an image using words. But when you're an illustrator? Excessive explanation is not demanded from you. Instead, there's an implicit message you must convey through your illustrations and the small amount of dialogue that exists between characters. And yes, although Hiro has a tendency to not explain enough, that isn't an applicable statement for Enchantment.

So to prove my point, I am going to go through two stages:

1. What is Enchantment?

2. The scale of Irene's feats.

What is Enchantment?

From the point when Acnologia and Irene fought, however briefly, Enchantment was succinctly explained as:

Does this sound simple? Sure. But let's consider the status of Enchantment in canon.

While it is an easily recognizable Magic by those familiar with plenty of Magic, such as Mirajane Strauss, outside of it, Enchantment is hardly used. It is an art that has probably been discontinued in favor of more specialized magical abilities.

Your next question is probably "Why discontinue practicing such a powerful ability?" Well, my answer is, "Enchantment is not powerful." To the majority of you this may come off as extremely shocking, but let me explain the reasoning. The majority of Magic are not powerful individually. Even the likes of Command T and Age Seal are limited by the raw power of the individual using them. Then why is it that we're not using the same considerations for Enchantment? Irene is an ungodly powerful woman whose ability extends to the point where she can change the climate and extract an infinite quantity of Magic from an individual.

To all of you that still aren't convinced, let's compare Irene's use of Enchantment to Wendy's brief use for a moment. Firstly, let me explain that Wendy is by no means an exceedingly proficient Enchanter. Her Enchantment is derived from her ability to utilize Sky Dragon Slayer Magic at a competent level. The entirety of her character has started from suffusing the air with her own Magic and using that air to either perform offensive attacks or enhance the abilities of other people. As she has developed her skills, it is likely she is capable of performing atmospheric Enchantments to a limited extent. And, yes, she did block Irene's fireball by "disenchanting" it, but said fireball was weakened by the fact that Irene was plagued by Larcade Dragneel's Pleasure -- so that wasn't Irene's baseline power.

Irene's feats and their scale, An Explanation

First off, let's explain what Irene's status as an Enchanter in canon is. She is dubbed by Acnologia, a relatively credible source, as a "High Enchanter", which is described as an individual capable of bestowing and affixing their Magic on "all things."

This might sound simple, again, at first glance. But, it really isn't. It is precisely because Irene possesses so much power and skill that she is even capable of attaining this title and, by extension, the acknowledgement of Acnologia as an enjoyable opponent. So, I'll now break down the nature of Irene's feats in chronological order:

The first of Irene's feats was to outright change the climate of the entirety of Mt. Zonia. From the onset this should give you an idea as to the ridiculous amount of power that Irene holds. But even further than that, it should give you an idea as to her skill with Enchantment. By suffusing her very Magic into the air, Irene was able to actively alter an entire ecosystem almost effortlessly. How was she capable of doing this? In suffusing her Magic into all of the air around her, she then applied her influence and subtly increased the temperature to the point where the snow began to melt and the former environment buried by the perpetual winter of Mt. Zonia was released. Now, for a moment, consider just how precise Irene's application of her magical power must be to pull off a feat like this without outright causing a blanket of flames to spread over Zonia instead? Yeah, that was a possible alternative to this outcome.

This here is an atmospheric Enchantment on a slightly lower scale. However, consider this. Rather than enchanting air over a large vicinity by blanketing your magical power outwards, instead, Irene must carefully affix her power over a comparatively small area, ensure that this process only takes an instant before subsequently directing the fireball as intended to the target. Does it sound simple? Sure. But consider this: the air is constantly moving at rapid speeds and, without any sort of vacuum barricade, has no upper limit to how much it can travel. To be able to instantly suffuse one's Magic into the air and transmute it into flames within the next moment is a feat that requires a lot of concentration. For Irene to be able to do it instantly and on a scale high enough to force Acnologia's hand? That's outright incredible. In comparison, when Irene was affected by Pleasure, she still had the concentration to perform this act, albeit it was weakened enough to the point where Wendy could disenchant it.
