"Fear.... it's one's greatest obstacle, the source of irrationality, and believed to be the stem of human weakness. However, it can be used as one's greatest weapon, great imposing on one's enemies and utterly dominating their wills. It has no enemies nor allies; its indiscriminate, existing in all things. No one is immune to the concept known as "fear", for its part of one's nature."

Abysmal Phantasm (最深冥界谷間殺意凝視(アビズマル·ファンタズム), Abizumaru Fantazumu; lit. "Murderous Glare of the Deepest Underworld Chasm") is one of the various applications of Magical Aura, invented and used by various mages throughout history — inducing various effects on the victims pending on the caster's magical nature; this classifies it as an Ancient Spell as consequence to such revelations. Interestingly enough, it can be applied to a multitude of other combat forms outside the realms of magic, making it the first of its kind to be usable by nearly all beings — regardless of origins.

It's seen as a form of the Black Arts due to its drastic effects, though is considered to be much weaker than its brethren — ironically due to its lack of "power". The application is seen as a Caster Magic and a Subspecies Magic, its overall ramifications mirroring the infamous Death Magic. Currently, this is one of the more commonly seen forms of the Black Arts in the modern era, being subconsciously used by various mages on a wider scale — its very presence being recognized by the most well-seasoned fighters upon initial glance.

Overview[]

"You think you know what fear is? How foolish. In a mere moment, you'll experience the worst kind of terror you feeble mind can comprehend. Even when all of this is over and you somehow manage to survive, such a memory will haunt you for the rest of your days. It's only then that you will truly knowing the meaning behind the word you so casually throw out in hubris!"

Trivia[]

  • This is basically Killing Intent, but fitted for the FTverse; it can be used by multiple characters, in lieu of its status as a form of magic due to its mechanics.
  • The purpose behind this article is so that users would have something to equate the aura intimidation techniques seen in Slayer Magic; this makes it similar to the Magic Power Wearing spell in terms of intended purpose.
  • When looked at from another angle, this is basically the expanded and more imposing version of the "Monster Aura" — capable of causing physical and psychological harm to the target(s) in-question on a greater scale; it's due to this that the author classifies it as a form of the Black Arts, despite its availability to nearly every known mage and their mothers.
