Berion Maddox is a member of the Dark Guild Venom's Herald and a member of the fanatic cult known as the Church of the Shattered Earth that worships old gods, particularly those who worship the gods of the earth. Unlike the other members of Venom's Herald who split from Celestial Dawn, Berion had no association to the guild and was brought into the fold through his connection with Notus.

Appearance

Berion is a thin, wisp of a man, standing at little over average height for a man his age with silvery-gray hair that stops just below his chin. The most unusual feature about Berion however are his cross-shaped pupils, which are evidence of tampering with his body through modifications on a cellular level through magical means. Berion's eyes give him a cold appearance with people claiming to have felt as if he were staring directly into them yet looking past them all at the same time. His general attire consists of a three piece form fitting suit typically in white, gray or beige colors.

Berion is best described as an extremist in his faith, believing that the deities of the earth are without a doubt the true rulers of the world. Prone to spouting proverbs from books relating to the earth deities, Berion is a fanatic through and through.

A dangerous aspect of Berion's personality is his devote loyalty to both the gods of the earth and to his leader Notus, going so far as to murder any who speak out of terms on either subject. Because of this extreme level of devotion, Berion is considered by others as a highly unstable character leading most to merely avoid any direct contact with him, minus Notus.

History

Little is known of Berion's past before he joined the Church of the Shattered Earth. What is known is that he was a street orphan who provided for himself by robbing those he could. While hiding himself in the back of a traveling caravan, the group unfortunately stumbled upon a summoning ceremony being held by the Church where the caravan where all slaughtered as a sacrifice. Witnessing the failed summoning of what was purported to be a god of the desert by the church, Berion joined their ranks and became an apostle.

Magic & Abilities

Great Magical Power: Through unknown means conducted by the church, Berion has attained a great amount of magical power to the point that he is more than capable of holding his own against multiple mages at a time. As evidenced by his area of effect spells, Berion is capable of executing spells on such a level that he can effect entire towns at a whim without signs of fatigue.

Enhanced Strength: Unbefitting his thin build, Berion possesses unnatural strength to a higher level thanks in part to the magical conditioning performed on him by the church.

Enhanced Endurance & Durability: Much like with his strength, Berion is capable of taking much more punishment than most would expect for a man his size. In comparison to other members, Berion is only second to Clay in being able to take absurd amounts of damage.

Enhanced Speed: Speed and reaction time are not Berion's greatest strengths, as he prefers transforming his body into sand to allow attacks to bypass him harmlessly. Though this isn't to say Berion isn't still faster than the average human and is still capable of reacting to attacks that are capable of bypassing his sand form.

Sand Magic (砂魔法 Suna Mahō): The user manipulates sand, either released from his body or gathered from the surrounding environment, shaping it into a variety of forms for different purposes, with the most prominent so far being combat, with sand-made bullets or waves being the most common attacks. The sand seems to inflict damage due to the sheer blunt power granted it by the amount of material used each time.

• Typhoon: An offshoot of the more dangerous Sand World spell, Berion unleashes a tornado sized sandstorm that completely swallows up the opponent. Due to the high speeds the sand moves at, most opponents are torn to shreds or at the very least moderately injured.
• Sand Body: As the name suggests, Berion turns his body into the very sand he controls allowing all physical and some magical attacks to harmlessly pass through his body. While in this form, Berion is capable of generating a near endless supply of sand as long as his magic can provide it.
• Sand Bomb: Berion traps his opponents in a sand cocoon of sorts before causing it to implode dealing significant damage to those caught in it.
