Chinkon (鎮魂, lit. 'the calming of the spirits' or 'requiem') is a kingdom located within a large section of land that what was once Neo Arcadia. It is a kingdom created and ruled by Nurarihyon that was designed for demons who want a life of peace. Approximately a million demons call this their home and Nurarihyon their lord. Despite this size there are many more demons outside of the kingdom who consider this home, but are unable to live their due to lack of space. Itsuki claims he would need access to the entirety of Neo Arcadia to be able allow access to every demon who wants to move here. If the former population of Neo Arcadia is anything to by this suggests there are another nine million demons in Earth Land and Tehom who think of Nurarihyon as their king and want to move to Chinkon.
History[]
Demographics[]
Government[]
Chinkon has a monarchy with Nurarihyon as its king and Tsuki Uintā as its queen. Though its founder is still alive the proclamation of Vincent Nakano as heir confirms that Chinkon has specifically a hereditary monarchy. While Nurarihyon does have complete authority over the kingdom he cannot and does not do everything alone. The needs of the kingdom are divided into four large sections with each Demon General in charge of one of the sections. The four sections are divided into 97 departments with each guild member in charge of a department who in turn are in charge of employees who were hired from the populace. When Nurarihyon issues an order he passes the order to the demon general in charge of the section the order involves. They in turn pass on the order to the guild member under them in charge of the department the order involves and the guild member makes sure it is done by dividing up tasks amongst their employees. Whenever there are no orders the guild is keeping the kingdom running smoothly through maintaining their departments with the Demon Generals making sure the guild members under them are working. The only irregularity to this is Otohime and how she is head of the department of education despite not being a guild member.
The Demon Generals are demons chosen not just for their power, but loyalty. Possessing even greater loyalty for their lord than the rest of the guild who are not lacking in loyalty either. The reasons for their loyalty is as diverse as the people with most of these reasons being personal in nature. This makes corruption or manipulation from an outside force near impossible as everyone in the guild respects Nurarihyon too much for it to be possible. As for the citizens the guild members employee they to have little reason for that risks dismantling the kingdom that allows them a peaceful life. It is a very sturdy government held together by everyone's respect, loyalty, and gratefulness toward their king. This is part of where Nurarihyon's complete authority comes from. Complete loyalty throughout the entire government. A close knit guild who view each other as family who also helps run a kingdom and give it structure.
The demon generals and the normal guild members that report to them don't do this for free. The amount they get paid corresponds with their position and the amount of hours worked. Demon generals get paid more than normal guild members who in turn get paid more than the employees who work for them. On top of this the the guild does have typical guild jobs should a guild member run low though with how generously everyone in the guild is paid that is unlikely to happen. That isn't to say no one in the guild does any normal guild jobs. Most do, but because they want to not because they need to.
The first of four larger section is public policies which revolves around Nurarihyon's orders that involve the kingdom's laws and guidelines. As his wife and the person who is more loyal to him than anyone else this section is naturally under Tsuki's jurisdiction. She also oversees the other Demon Generals whenever her husband is too busy to do so himself. The second section is revolves around domestic policies such as enforcement and education, which is Gyūki jurisdiction. The third is foreign policies, which is Lilith's jurisdiction with Tsuki picking up the slack whenever she is not around when needed. Due to Lilith's danger sense this is very rare because Lilith always seems to show up at the exact moment she is needed if not sooner. The last section involves anything directly involving the private lives of citizens such as housing, business, and the like. In short this section revolves around making sure the lives of the citizens are running smoothly. On paper this section is NaVarro's responsibility and was Taiga's before his death. However, since NaVarro is rarely around Kira maintains the section for him in addition to her duties as the Nurarihyon's Hand.
The way the government is set up is a major reason why becoming an S-class is so difficult. Just letting any guild member become an S-class because they passed a trial would be irresponsible. Any guild member wishing to become an S-class must meet Nurarihyon's high standards when it comes to power, must prove they are as loyal as the Demon Generals, prove themselves a capable leader, and prove to Nurarihyon that their department is important enough to be classified as a section instead. No mere S-class trial can help prove all of that.
Military Strength[]
Chinkon has a deceptively powerful military geared toward defending itself over offense. On the surface it appears as though its military is composed solely of the Hyakki Yagyō and while the guild does defend the kingdom they don't do it alone. What truly deters attacks is the kingdom's many allies. Ayakashi consider Nurarihyon as their absolute ruler, the forest surrounding the kingdom is patrolled by Yoko Inari and her best friend Kemokemo who are also the ones who created the massive forest, they have the good will of Cerberus, Gyūki's wife is the daughter of the absolute ruler of water dragons, and one of the guild member's foster father is Typhon Himura if things get especially desperate just to name a few of the kingdom's close allies. Admittedly the last example is unlikely to help unless Nurarihyon gives a lot in exchange so Nurarihyon really doesn't want to rely on him. Of course, no one outside of the kingdom knows that and believes he has Typhon on speed dial. On the off chance a potential enemy does overpower the powerful guild and kill the royal family they will have very little hope surviving what will come. It is little wonder why every demon seeking a peaceful life views Nurarihyon as their king. He is not only the only one who cares about them, but his kingdom is the best chance they have at peace.
Economy[]
Currency[]
Chinkon's currency is the cintamani with the lowest denomination of cintamani being equivalent to 200 jewels. The cintamani is a lacrima twice the size of a quarter, which has aether infused into it by Nurarihyon. The aether in it is infused as a result of Nurarihyon infusing one of his Aetherial Translocation spells inside of it. A demon in danger is able to active the spell by channeling magic or curse power into it causing them to sucked into the portal and how many times the spell can be used depends on its denomination. As the one who sealed the spell into each and every cintamani in circulation Nurarihyon is able to tell when someone has used his spells at which point he will create another portal to teleport them to his side making it easy to provide whatever aid the demon needs. In short, the currency of Chinkton has value beyond monetary. So long as anyone has even a single cintamani with them they will be save and when a cintamani runs out of charges Nurarihyon seals another Aetherial Translocation spell inside of it free of charge. Furthermore due to the power of aether it is extremely difficult to negate the spell sealed inside. So hard in fact that it would take a master user of Rules of the Area to negate it.
Culture[]
Strength equals charity. That is the culture of Chinkon. Those who are strong are highly respected in the kingdom, but not because of their strength but because of their willingness to fight so that the demons seeking peace do not half to. You do not climb the social ladder just by being strong, but by using that strength for the sake of others.
Technology[]
Races[]
Chinkon is a kingdom composed almost entirely of demons. The only non-demons in the kingdom are usually the family of a demon with the most famous example being Otohime Dragonborn and how she is the wife of Gyūki Hoori. This is for good reason since the curse power and Magical Barrier Particles that now fill Neo Arcadia make the land completely inhospitable to anyone except demons and creatures strong enough to survive there such as the aforementioned dragon hybrid.
