Demons (悪魔, Akuma) are a race of "monsters" who have once populated Earth Land in numbers equivlant, or even greater, than humans, but for years to come, their kind has begun to slowly vanish, nearing extinction several points in time. They are feared as the very opposite of humanity, and are often regarded as the Manifestation of Hell's Will (発現の地獄意志, Hatsugen no Jigokuishi), enforcing a stereotype of a monster existing solely to cause destruction and nothing more.

They were once a major race in the Dragon Civil War, with some of the strongest armies of the war being that of demons. After the war, however, their population dwindled to the point that most have retreated to the underground kingdom of Gehenna, while few "rogues" still remain on the surface.

Biology

Demons are a powerful race, considered naturally superior to humans, but at the same time inferior to them, due to sharing as many weaknesses, if not more, than a human. Visually, a demon can have a variety of appearances, some more human than others, while some can be downright animalistic or monstrous, some even having biological features unique to them, that make them stand out even among their own race. This causes the demon race to be the one race whose appearances are almost always guaranteed to be different or unique from apart, individually, though most demons are humanoid in appearance, with some visual aspects making them stand out, such as horns or a tail, or simply abnormal eyes.

Demons also have prolonged lives, unlike humans, and are capable of living centuries, and age slowly, since they do grow from children to adutls and eventually to elderly, dying at a certain point. Though, there is a distinctive difference with how fast certain demons age, which is judged by their health and activity, the ones who have participated in large scale wars, for example, have all become elderly as of the present, showing that overexertion and exhaustion can lead to a demon's lifespan shortening.

Society & Structure

Classes/Ranks

The "ranks" and "classes" of demon society isn't a defining thing, like how Celestial Spirits possess Gold or Silver Keys and Werewolves have True or Turned, instead, they are more like social statuses placed upon Demons, which defines how they would be treated by their kin and society itself. Thus, in most cases, these classes do not amount to anything much, with only a few exceptions actually being related to the demon's own physiology.
