Overview[]
Sand Devil Slayer Magic allows its users to generate, manipulate, and harness the sand element for different purposes, primarily for destroying the demonkind. The Devil Slayer’s element has a slightly different composition and properties, giving an array of different perks to the user. It looks like the Devil Slayer has the innate ability to “resonate”, i.e. manipulate the souls and the smallest particles within the matter of their element. Such unusual properties make the demonic element highly versatile and capable, however, it places a higher strain and exhaust on the user, comparing to other Slayer Magic. The Devil Slayer develops very strong bodies with huge stamina because of this reason. Everything is built up with the help of harsh training to allow the practitioner to make proper use of their Magic.
In the case of Sand Devil Slayer Magic, the training is exceptionally hard, because the element itself naturally represented in two variations. One is a granular material composed of finely divided rock and mineral particles; another is a textural class of soil. The sand material is a fickle and speaking figuratively, a free-willing one. This is an earth-based element composed of the smallest granules that easily dissipate, and the user needs to learn how to control such unstable material. Once they master their ability to manipulate sand, each sand particle can be controlled by the user, thus making any amount of sand a unique and dangerous weapon that they can shape in whatever way they want.
The sheer power of this Magic is larger comparing to other Slayer Magic, and with enough experience, the user can become a living desert – create sandstorms of different caliber, literally change the landscape as well as induce arid climate within the area. A general theme with all Devil Slayers, the user’s presence can be noticed immediately just when they release the smallest amount of their respective Magic. In the case of Sand Devil Slayers, it feels like an arid wave of heat is emitted from the Mage’s body, and the atmosphere becomes arid. The sheer presence can drastically change the outside temperature, however not on a similar scale as it happens with fire- and volcano-based Devil Slayer Magic variations.
Changed Physiology[]
Exorcist Mages have altered physiology, the one that is similar to the demonic nature, thus allowing them to slay demons. The practitioner in question can absorb their respective element from external sources; anything sand-related restores the user’s stamina, strength, and slightly heals wounds. At the same time, the user is immune to merely all sand-related effects. They cannot be harmed with the sand element, as well as the immunity granted by this Magic is at its pinnacle. If there is the slightest chance that the user will be attacked with their Magic, they will sustain really low damage from the attack. This effect occurs even when the user cannot eat the element they create from their body. The element should be consumed through mouth, as well as the user can restore their powers by literal bathing in the sand; even though the beach relax helps Exorcist Mages on a larger scale than when people simply decided to have a day off, some tanning and making castles out of the sand, the reinvigoration process such way restores the Mage’s parameters on a much lower scale.

It was mentioned before that sand is not only a mixture of rocks and minerals as small particles but also a textural type of soil. Due to this characteristic, the user can manipulate the soil (in other words, almost all types of the earth) to the degree that allows crushing it and eventually creating more sand for the user to use. When mastered, the user nearly always has access to the external source of their element, in other words, they can become an unstoppable warrior who can recover themselves mid-battle. Furthermore, Devil Slayers receive less damage from earth-based attacks or Magic, and the theoretical damage that they could receive is halved by fifty percent.
Both Hunters and Slayers have altered and enhanced bodily composition. They have the innate ability to analyze demons’ bodies with their sight; in case of this magic, the user can provide an analysis of the Demon’s body that allows seeing the Magic Disease Particles and the demon’s weak spots around the body. Even though this type of Devil Slayer Magic doesn’t have a more advanced level of so-called Exorcist Vision, it has other different perks instead. The first known perk is that Sand Exorcist Vision allows tracking of anything particle-related on a bigger scale comparing to its counterparts. The user’s perception regarding elemental or Ethernano particles is more potent, and with it, the user can track the slightest changes within the chosen target. Furthermore, the eyes of Sand Devil Slayers, as well as Demon Hunters, cannot be deceived by mirages or illusions. Their eye perception is somewhat adapted to it, and according to one of its users, they can develop a sixth sense or intuition that warns them once they witness any unusual visual effect. The second known perk is not that related to eyes, but to the general tactile senses of the user. By placing the hand on the earth or sand, the user can track the location of their targets, and when using this ability on more advanced levels, they can determine the approximate power/magic level, distance, quantity, and even the health status of the targets.
The body of a Sand Devil Slayer is more adapted to the climate in terms of thermal conditions. The user of Sand Devil Slayer Magic is much more resistant to a sultry hot and arid climate, the one could be found in the sand area like deserts. They can spend a lot of time wandering in deserts without water and fear of receiving a solar hit at day or freeze to death at night. Extending on sultry hot weather, Exorcist Mages that use the sand element can withstand nearly all properties of heat much easier than others, however on a lower scale than fire- and heat-related Mages. The thermal adaptation provides the Mage with versatility and allows them to have less trouble when putting a fight with anybody with fire-related abilities.
The Hunters and Slayers have bodies immune to the Magic Disease Particles as they’re already demonized partially, as well as the most experienced users can temporarily take on the Demonic Form. They are also immune to external and/or forced demonification because their body already modified with Demon Genes.
Devil Slayer Magic is a very fickle one. If the user learns their magic quite fast for the body to keep up, like using spells of high caliber or utilizing the demonic properties without the trained body, the Magic will influence the Mage via demonization process. In general, this process starts when the user’s body becomes afflicted with black markings that spread across the entire body, and can influence parts of the body like hair or eyes (in color), etc. For the first time, this process is uncontrollable; however, the Mage can learn how to summon the markings at will and using them to improve their performance. It has been specifically mentioned that the Devil Slayers’ souls are influenced by their magic, becoming “tainted”. This is the second stage of the demonization processing, something that leads the Mages to lose their sanity with time and make irrational decisions. The third stage is when the user completely becomes corrupted by their Magic and do not control their consciousness anymore. It should be noted that Sand Devil Slayer Magic, due to its nature, is even more fickle than its counterparts. Even with the learning process being longer and harder, the user is more vulnerable to the demonization process, thus sometimes Seth Bringer can be half the way to become insane already.
Last, but not least, one of the basic and at the same time the most powerful functions is that Devil Slayers can kill or exorcise demonic power by exerting their Magic Power upon the target, in other words, using the "demon" side of their Magic, given it is the true purpose of the Magic; due to this function, Devil Slayers are called exorcists.
Element Traits[]
Sand Devil Slayers can generate and manipulate the sand element. The sand can be manipulated in a wide variety of ways, and to tell the truth, Sand Devil Slayer Magic can be considered as one of the most versatile Slayer Magic in near existence, because of the feats, which its users can reach within its utilization.
Sand has different forms in nature:
- a granular material composed of finely divided rock and mineral particles; defined by size, being finer than gravel and coarser than silt;
- a textural class of soil or soil type; i.e., a soil containing more than 85 percent sand-sized particles by mass.
The most common constituent of sand in inland continental settings and non-tropical coastal settings is silica, silicon dioxide, or SiO2; it is usually in the form of quartz, that’s why Sand Devil Slayer can develop a wider approach on how to use its properties in battle or for other uses. The second most common type of sand is calcium carbonate, for example, aragonite, which has mostly been created, over the past half billion years, by various forms of life, like coral and shellfish.
One of the known users has come up with a unique type of sand, a special Magic-Infused Sand. The mage uses a mixture of ethernano and sand particles, thus the sand he’s using is more of his nature. As a result, he can make faster and more powerful attacks, and passively “level up” his element via more precise manipulation and its deployment. Because Magic-Infused Sand is a core this Mage’s unorthodox fighting style, he almost always carries a supply of such sand wherever he goes.
The sand is essentially a lot of minerals, so the user can utilize the element in different forms, changing its properties in a split second. The user can overwhelm their opponents with a gigantic mass of sand, create different sharp objects, and the replica is durable enough to clash with its real counterpart (sand sword vs. real sword), or even using sand as a compressed projectile to greatly extend their range. The mineral characteristics can be employed, which allows for creating objects with better properties, making unbreakable defenses, etc. The user even can go as far as incorporate other materials into the sand, increasing its versatility even further. The same way the user is capable of enclosing others with sand, taking a relative control over their movements. The sand itself can be empowered with outside sources of sand, or with other elements. It is known that Wind Magic can create a deadly combination in pair with sand because it increases the sand speed and reaches.
Sand-related Exorcist Mages can train secondary characteristics of sand, such as dehydration and illusion creation. It is a conceptual power in both cases, related to the concepts associated with sand in general.
Nevertheless, the sand element has several pros and cons. While it is a versatile element, its worst enemy is any liquid-based element like water and blood. The liquid moisturizes the sand, and the user has trouble with using moist sand as it is hard to control, easily crumbles, and heavier than its dry version. The wet sand is still good for molding objects; however, they are easier to destroy with outside sources. Even though wind can be used for sand augmentation, at the same time wind mage can blow away any incoming sand attack from them, thus leaving the sand mage vulnerable and opened to almost any attack. Even more, the sand can be countered with elements heavier than it is, but with the same manipulative properties (for example, usual sand vs. iron sand). Usually, once the sand object receives even the smallest damage to the point of being slightly broken, it will soon dissipate on its own, because it lost its integrity.
When trained enough, as well as with enough creativity, the user can master the sand dehydration property – a concept related to the arid climate of deserts. This attribute allows its users to deflect the moisture by absorbing the liquids from the object, essentially “drying” it up and overcoming the well-known weakness. Not every Sand Devil Slayer can train this ability, but masters can extend its properties in range and use as means of attack to damage enemies once standard ways of combat do not work. Going deeper with the desert theme, the user can achieve control of mirage creation, thus fool their opponents with different illusions, like dangerous so not-harmful. The user has a deep connection with the element, so when they fight in a sand-based area, they become stronger in several times, as they have plenty of sand to recover their energy supplies and use it as a weapon.
Last, but not least, as the user is highly resistant to thermal changes, the same goes with their element. The sand has a limited immunity towards Fire Magic because it only “burns” at extremely high temperatures. In general, any fire-related Magic cannot go through sand and harm Exorcist Mages, however fire-based Slayer Magic can do the trick with enough time and power.
Class Distribution[]
Devil Slayer Magic is one of a few, if not the only one, that has its own power measurement system between its users. Currently, there are only two categories of Devil Slayer Magic users: the first category is Demon Hunters (
- Spell Pattern: Demon Hunters name their spells with a prefix of Elemental Demon without a possessive case, for example, Sand Demon: Roar (砂鬼・咆哮, Sunaoni: Gekiko); Devil Slayers use Elemental Devil's pattern for their spells instead: Sand Devil's (砂魔の, Isama no). This small detail shows that Devil Slayers are superior to Demon Hunters; while the latter hunt demons and somewhat replicate their power, the former slay the demonkind, i.e. destroy the evil in one of its forms.
- Element Coloration: merely all Devil Slayers have a violet or purple coloration of their respective element. On the other hand, Demon Hunters use elements with a natural coloration, the same witnessed in nature. In the case of Sand Devil Slayer Magic, Demon Hunters utilize sand with standard coloration. Devil Slayers, for example, use sand with purple-colored particles that are reflecting the light, giving off its new-found coloration.
- Element-related Limitation: Demon Hunters cannot absorb their element through their body, and their Magic not that strong and large-scaling, comparing to its Devil Slayer's variant. Furthermore, Demon Hunters cannot consume soil as part of sand element, as their body isn't adapted to it yet. Furthermore, they cannot crush soil/earth to create more of their element. Devil Slayers, on the other hand, can somewhat withstand soil-based attacks and create more sand with it.
- Power Difference: the power scale of the two classes is different, with Demon Hunters being weaker than Devil Slayers. Demon Hunter in question doesn't possess that array of abilities that Devil Slayer can achieve or already uses, as they cannot access Demon Form or use Devil Force. Demon Hunters have their own variations of power-ups instead. They can use Fiend Power (
真鬼強化 , Fiendo Pawā lit. True Demon Power Release), a form of booster similar to the Drive form of Dragon Slayers from A to Z. Demonic Power enhances users' capabilities to an extent, though it's not powerful enough to be a match for Devil Force. It is generally known that Fiend Power enhances, or rather releases the current full potential of a particular Demon Hunter, making them stronger in five times at least.

Devil Side[]
The above-mentioned description of tainting side effects are signs of a phenomenon called “Devil Side”. This phenomenon characterized by the birth of inner demons inside Mage’s mind and sub-consciousness. This is the dark side of the user, the demonic part that initially is dormant, however, becomes stronger with each time the Devil Slayer Magic is being used. Sometimes this results in the inner demon-possession of the body, which destroys the Mage identity and allows the demon to live. When the user relives the Devil Side awakening, they can enter their sub-consciousness and face their demons. To unlock the Demon Form, the one needs to subjugate their demonic self. They can either fight with it or try to a more peaceful way to “defeat” the Devil Side. In most cases, the first option is chosen, and the Mage rushes in a harsh battle. If the Mage is victorious, a feat that cannot be reached that easily, they receive a bigger boost in their powers due to the new-found ability to take on the Demon Form. If the user lost their battle, the inner demon will be the dominant side, thus taking over the body, and then the mind of the user, eventually destroying their identity. If the user finds a harmonious way to live with the inner demon, the result is the same – the access to the Demon Form.
The Demon Form, usually, is the perk available only for highly-experienced exorcist mages, the best from the ace league. They can enter this form at will, though Demon Form is something unorthodox within the Slayer Magic, as this is an ability born out of the recently discovered side effect that happened with some users when they only began their path as Exorcist Mages. The demon Form has two manifestations. The first stage is the complete control of the demon markings that grants a boost in performance, similar to that of Dragon Slayers in Drive state. At the same time, the user receives a resistance to the Curse effects, though to a limited degree. The Magic Power of the user also becomes changed, as with activated markings, the user has a dual magical power of both mage and demon, something that allows reaching power levels far surpassing that of either regular Mage or a demon. Once the markings are activated, the released Magical Power represents the fusion between the human and the demon. The accumulation of both powers greatly augments the individual powers, drastically increasing the overall fighting performance.
The second stage is when the markings not simply covering the body, but changes the entire color scheme: the skin becomes much darker, the hair can become longer with another color, and some individual can receive much sharper fangs or claws or in the rarest cases – additional appendages like tail, wings, horns, etc. The second stage is the manifestation of the Devil Side in the real world, the representation of the Mage’s darkness that lies within them. This form is essentially the same as the Etherious Form of notorious demons from Books of the Black Wizard: the user changes their appearance, greatly augments capabilities and gains access to an amplified array of their already available abilities. In some cases, this allows reaching the real potential outside of the Devil Force.

Dual Element Devil Mode[]
It is possible for Devil Slayer to utilize Dual Element Devil Mode (モード二要素魔, Mōdo Niyōsoma), an ability that allows harnessing the power of not only the sand, but the secondary consumed element under the condition of self-nullifying of Magic Power for making enough room to consume and even utilize the new outside element; also such process was quite hard damaging.
It is somewhat considered that the easiest Dual Element Mode to receive for Sand Devil Slayer is Metal Sand Devil Mode (モード金砂魔, Mōdo Kinshama), a special application of the primary magic. It is the Dual Element Devil Mode that allows the user to maintain both the power of their usual Sand Devil Slayer Magic and consumed Metal Devil Slayer Magic. When combining both elements, the Mage’s performance becomes more potent, and the Magic itself has the properties and destructive abilities of both elements. The consideration of easier mode achieving comparing to others can be contributed to the fact that both sand and metal are considered as different forms of the earth: the sand is crumbled earth in particles, the metal is refined, cleaned version of solid earth. When making use of such mode, it can be augmented further with Magnet Enhancement (磁根性強化, Jikonjō Kyōka lit. Magnet Nature Empowerment), an ability that helps the user to create magnetic fields; with it, the user achieves a better control over the Metal Sand making more potent constructs and having precise control over the form of the element. Lastly, with the help of a magnet, the user can empower their performance even more with the use of lightning, thus using a form of electromagnetism to have even deadlier techniques at their disposal.
