Take Over (
Overview[]
Take Over allows the user to confiscate, or take over, the essence of another being and fuse it with their own Magic Origin, enabling the caster to channel the entity’s power as their own. This magic is notable for its versatility and for the immense willpower required to initiate and successfully perform a Take Over. It is said that one can only Take Over beings they truly know.
The process requires direct physical contact and a moment of resonance, during which the caster draws the target’s essence into their own origin. Attempting to Take Over an entity whose power or will surpasses the caster’s own is extremely dangerous. In some cases, the fusion may invert, allowing the entity to possess the mage instead. Particularly powerful confiscated souls may attempt this usurpation at any time. Additionally, some beings are so powerful that they cannot be taken by force and instead require consent for their essence to be confiscated.
Through Take Over, the user inherits not only the entity’s magical abilities, but can alter their appearance and physiology, assuming traits intrinsic to the entity’s nature. This can include enhanced speed or strength, as well as altered anatomy such as underwater respiration or flight. Transformations may take several forms: partial transformations affecting only specific body parts, hybrid forms blending the caster’s anatomy with the entity’s, full transformations that fully mirror the entity, or non-physical fusions that grant only magical abilities without bodily change.
Take Over is not without limits. The number of entities a caster can fuse with their Magic Origin is finite, largely dependent on the relative strength and complexity of the beings taken over. Furthermore, fusing multiple categories of lifeforms can muddy the caster’s identity and place immense strain on their mind and body. This often results in the caster degenerating into an unstable amalgamation of fused traits, losing their humanity entirely. As a result, most practitioners specialize in specific types of lifeforms as their archetype. Common choices include Beast Soul and Animal Soul. Rarer and more dangerous archetypes include Satan Soul and Machina Soul, while whispers persist of the fabled God Soul.
Difficulty of Take Overs[]
Note: This section is a fanon interpretation of the functions of Take Over and are not strict rules, but more-so an illustration of what different tiers of fan archetypes of Take Over may look like and the number of unique Take Over spells different characters might have. This terminology can be used to further develop fanon forms of take over or can be ignored.
- Greater Take Over (上位接収, Jōi Sesshū): Take Overs that require an immense amount of willpower and are extremely dangerous. Entities in this category are those with extreme amounts of magic power, intelligence, and complexity, such as gods, archdevils, dragons, and zodiac spirits. Examples include Dragon Soul and God Soul. A human can only fuse one soul in this category to their Magic Origin.
- Intermediate Take Over (中位接収, Chūi Sesshū) Take Overs that require focus and mastery, involving entities of similar intelligence and magic power to humanoids. The number of beings a user can Take Over is estimated to be fewer than ten, depending on their strength. Examples include Satan Soul and presumably Machina Soul.
- Lesser Take Over (下位接収, Kai Sesshū) Take Overs that are the easiest to master and have the fewest risk of complications. Entities in this category are tend to be magical flora and fauna or even ordinary animals. Examples include Beast Soul (though it more accurately sits somewhere between Intermediate and Lesser) and Animal Soul.
Types of Take Over[]
- Partial Take Over (部分接収, Bubun Sesshū): A style of Take Over that allows the caster to integrate only a portion of a confiscated being’s essence, manifesting it through a localized transformation of the body, such as a single limb. It is a style popularized by "Beast Arm" Elfman Strauss.
- Hybrid Take Over (半接収, Han Sesshū): A style of Take Over that involves partially integrating a confiscated being’s essence across the caster’s body, altering their appearance and physiology to resemble the being they have taken over while still maintaining a humanoid form. The most common style of Take Over.
- Full Take Over (全接収, Zen Sesshū): A style of Take Over that permits the caster to fully integrate the essence of a confiscated being, undergoing a complete transformation and becoming an near replica of the entity in both form and function.
- Magic Take Over (魔法接収, Mahō Sesshū): A style of Take Over that draws upon only the magical essence of a confiscated being, allowing the caster to wield its Magic without any physical transformation.
Trivia[]
- This description of Take Over was written by GloamingEve. It is a mild expansion of canon with suggested ideas, not rules.
- The administration has a few guidelines on the creation of new Take Over articles. Each article must be named "X Soul" (eg. Satan Soul, or Beast Soul) and should be named after the species/type of creature they are taking over instead of obscure synonyms. If you are creating your own version, such as the popular Dragon Soul, the page should be named "Dragon Soul (Username)".
